Chinese robotics manufacturer UBTECH has opened presales for its first consumer-focused humanoid robots, the U1 series, priced at approximately $30,000. Released under the company's new UWORLD brand, the robots mark a shift from UBTECH's history of supplying industrial automation to manufacturers like Airbus, NIO, and FAW-Volkswagen.
The U1 series comes in two models. The male version stands 183 centimeters (6 feet) tall, while the female version measures 168 centimeters (5 feet 6 inches). Both robots feature silicone skin, realistic hair, and reflective eyes. They incorporate 88 degrees of freedom across the arms, legs, hands, neck, chest, and torso to coordinate physical movement.
UBTECH demonstrated the robots through controlled promotional videos. The cinematic footage highlights detailed skin textures and subtle facial expressions rather than autonomous household tasks. The underlying hardware adapts technology originally developed for precision work and safe human interaction in factory environments.
Pre-orders opened on JD.com on June 2, requiring a 3,000 yuan (about $450) deposit. UBTECH reported more than 2,100 reservations within the first week. The company plans to begin deliveries in mid-September, following a public launch event scheduled for June 30. To support production, UBTECH formed a partnership with Siemens in March 2025, targeting an annual manufacturing capacity of 10,000 humanoid units by 2026.
Why it matters: The U1 series tests whether a market exists for full-size, highly realistic humanoid companions in the home. It represents a direct attempt to commercialize industrial robotics hardware for domestic consumers at the price of a new car.
