Toyota revealed a legged robotic chair concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 designed to transport people with limited mobility through environments inaccessible to standard wheelchairs.
Described as resembling a crab or a robot dog, the compact device replaces traditional wheels with a legged mobility system. This design allows the chair to navigate complicated environments that typically block wheeled devices.
The robot is built for domestic use and vehicle access. It can carry users around their homes and actively assist them with transferring into a car.
Standard wheelchairs require flat surfaces, ramps, and wide clearances to function. A legged mobility chair bypasses these structural limitations, offering a mechanical alternative for users to navigate uneven terrain and tight domestic spaces without requiring extensive home modifications.
